We went to dinner to "Chakra" with Al and Chris, my brother and his wife Saturday night. It 's located on Route 4 east just west of the Garden State Plaza Mall. I love a chef who infuses different ethnic influences into the same old fish, steak and pork that every meal begins with.
Chef Lake has an excellent menu with a new twist on every fare. Cocktails, appetizers, main courses and desserts were all incredible.
The decor was very warm, the cavernous dinning room dark but not objectionable. If you want to have a serious conversation over dinner, you can't. All you can hear is 100 or more people talking at the same time. But if you're there with a group, I believe we were flanked by two bachelorette parties, you'll have a great time amid the noise.
The wine list was way too pricey and very extensive. As Chef Cic once told me, "No really good restaurant is going to serve bad wine." So order the least expensive.
The service was outstanding. Vinnie our waiter was great.
Four stars for the food.
